Travel Ban Lifted For American Pro-Democracy Workers In Egypt

After a ban that was placed upon seven Americans from traveling out of Egypt, officials have announced that the ban has been lifted. The ordeal began in December as 17 offices run by U.S. pro-democracy groups were raided by Egyptian security officers. The ban which was lifted Wednesday is a sign of the end to the worst strain in 30 years on the relations between Egypt and the United States.

Seven of the sixteen Americans on trial were banned from traveling out of Egypt causing much tension between the United States and Egypt. U.S. officials had then threatened to cut off aid that had been provided to Egypt’s military and economy. The case has been resolved by intense negotiations behind-the-scenes. Although the travel ban has been lifted, it is not yet know if the case has been dropped.
